Five Red Storm Players score in Double Figures in 89-72 win over BYU-Hawaii

LAIE, Hawaii -- Five Red Storm players scored in double figures to lead Dixie State to a 89-72 win over BYU-Hawaii tonight at the Cannon Activities Center.

Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) led the way by earning her third double-double of the season by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive side. Thomas scored 19 of her 20 points in the second half.

Coach Angie Kristensen said, "Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) dominated in the paint and really found her groove in the second half."

The Red Storm needed a comeback after trailing 36-35 at the half and that's how they responded. With the score tied at 50 with 15:21 left, DSC went on a 13-3 run to build a 10 point lead and they never looked back. Prior to the run, the game featured 12 ties and 20 lead changes.

Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) hit five three pointers on her way to 17 points and Gabriella Rodriguez (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) hit three more from behind the arc to finish with 13 points. Both LaBrea Walker (North Las Vegas, NV/Desert Pines) and Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) each scored 15 points.

"I thought our second half was amazing. Gabby and LaBrea gave me unbelievable minutes off the bench," added coach Kristensen.

The Seasiders held serve for most of the game and got a solid performance from Shayla Washington who scored a game-high 23 points and had eight rebounds. Brianna Jessop added 12 points and Danna Lynn Hooper chipped in 16.

DSC connected on 11-18 from three point range, which was a school record 61.1 percent. DSC finished by shooting 45.7 percent from the field.

Coach Kristensen concluded, "tonight was a a complete team effort and I am proud of them."

Winning for the fourth straight time, DSC improves to 14-5 overall and 9-2 in the PacWest. BYUH drops to 3-15 overall and 2-8 overall.

The Red Storm remain tied atop the PacWest standings and will need to be prepared for a tough matchup on Monday night against Hawaii Pacific. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
