WBB: Storm break skid with win over BYU-Hawaii

ST. GEORGE - Dixie State used a balanced attack Wednesday night to defeat BYU-Hawaii 86-58 in Pacific West Conference play inside the Burns Arena.



Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) led the Red Storm (17-7, 12-4 PWC) with 12 points off the bench. Thirteen different DSC players scored on the evening.



Leading 32-23 at the break, DSC used a runs of 7-0, 11-0, and 8-0 to run away from the Seasiders.

The Red Storm outscored BYUH 54-35 in the second half to capture the victory and keep their post season victories alive.



Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) and Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) each scored 10 points. DSC set a school record with 30 assists, both Hayes and Gabriella Rodriguez (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) had seven.



Coach Angie Kristensen said, "
Obviously was a good night offensively when we have 30 assists. I love how unselfish this team is."



It was a battle of points in the paint for DSC that made the difference. DSC outscored the Seasiders 50-26 in the paint. The Red Storm bench also outscored their opponents 55-4.



"Unbelievable minutes from our bench, they did a great job executing and it was great to see everyone get a chance to play," continued Coach Kristensen.



Dixie State shot 50 percent from the field, despite shooting just 11 percent (1-9) from three point range.



For BYU Hawaii, Taylor Mann scored 22 points and grabbed ten rebounds to lead the Seasiders.  Shayla Washington added 14 points and nine rebounds while Danna Lynn Hooper and Brianna Jessop each tallied nine points for BYU-Hawaii.  Danyele Hoffman handed out seven assists for the Seasiders who fell to 5-18 overall and 4-11 in the PacWest.



The Red Storm close out their home season with a game against last place Chaminade on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. It will be senior night for DSC, honoring Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton), Marcilina Grayer (South Jordan, UT/Copper Hills), Gabriella Rodriguez (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) and Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane).
