Thomas Scores Career High 25 in 86-49 Win over Chaminade

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Junior center Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) scored a career high 25 points in a Dixie State women's basketball 86-49 route of Chaminade University in McCabe Gynasium on Tuesday night.

Thomas led the Red Storm (13-5, 8-2 PWC) by connecting on 8-11 shots from the field, 9-10 from the foul line. She also had four rebounds and four block shots in just 21 minutes.

"Thomas played a tremendous game and they couldn't stop her inside," said Coach Kristensen.

Trailing 10-9, Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) nailed a three pointer coming out of the 13:27 media timeout and DSC opened up a 22-8 run to lead 31-18 at the 6:54 media timeout. The Red Storm never trailed again in the ballgame and led by as many as 38 points.

DSC shot a blistering 65.4 percent in the first half and finished the game with tied for the second highest shooting percentage in school history at 57.4 percent. The highest was 59.0 pecent in a game against BYU-Hawaii in 2010.

Two other Red Storm players finished in double figures in a game that featured all 10 DSC players scoring basket. LaBrea Walker (North Las Vegas, NV/Desert Pines) finished with 13 points and Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) added 12 points. Kayla Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) also set a career record with 9 points off the bench. The DSC bench outscored Chaminade 39-16.

Kristensen continued, "I was very happy with the way the reserves played tonight. They did a great job and was nice to see everyone score."

For the Silverswords (0-15, 0-9 PWC), it was their 28th consecutive loss. Despite the sluggish team performance, Jordan Ahakuelo scored 11 points in the loss.

"I thought our kids stayed focused tonight regardless of their record," concluded Kristensen.

The Red Storm have a couple of days off before traveling to the North Shore of the Island of Oahu to take on rival BYU-Hawaii on Saturday night. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Moutain time.
