Munns Nets 20 in Red Storm Loss to Central Missouri at Las Vegas Challenge

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Despite scoring a career-high twenty points and grabbing nine rebounds, Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) performance wasn't enough as Dixie State dropped a 78-69 non-conference battle to Central Missouri tonight at the Orleans Arena.

Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) hit a jumper with 7:37 left in the first half to give the Red Storm a 28-17 lead and appeared to be on cruise control. DSC led the majority of the first half, allowing CMU to take it's for lead of the game with just 57 second remaining in the first half.

The DSC game plan was to pound the ball inside and take advantage of the their size. The Red Storm have six players that stand six feet or taller and the CMU has just one on their roster.

The Red Storm success came just that way by grabbing 10 offensive rebounds and 14 second chance points in the first half.

But the visiting Jennies had a different idea and especially Keana Flax. Flax, playing in her first game of the season, scored a game-high 28 points on 11 of 18 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds to single handedly lead CMU to victory.

After an opening three-pointer from Flax, the Jennies used a steady attack to increase their lead. CMU connected on 7 of 15 shot from behind the arc.

Taking control for good, Flax, along with Nicole Caddell led the Jens on a 13-2 run, putting the Jens up 70-55 with 5:45 to play. Caddell knocked down six points during the run, while Flax recorded five of her 28 points over the same stretch.

Credit the Jennies, they forced the Red Storm out their game plan with physical play over the last 25 minutes of the game. Desite shooting near their average from the field, the Red Storm connected on three of 16 from behind the arc. With two of those coming in the final minutes of the game.

Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial )'s streak of six consecutive games with a double double came to end as she fell just short with eight points and eight rebounds.

Dixie State drops to 6-4 on the season and loses for the first time in six games. CMU wins and improves to 7-1 overall.

The Red Storm finish the Las Vegas Challenge with #17 Pittsburg State tomorrow at 5:00 pm MT. Pitt State lost to fellow PacWest member Academy of Art today in the earlier game 82-73.
