GAME INFO:  The Red Storm travel to participate in the Las Vegas Challenge in Las Vegas, NV. It is being hosted by DSC and the Orleans Arena. They will take on Central Missouri on Tuesday night at 6:00 pm and Pittsburgh State on Wednesday night at 5:00 pm. Listen to the live action on the Red Storm Radio Network -- KXDS 91.3 FM -- and online via DixieAthletics.com with John Potter calling the play-by-play.

SERIES RECORD: This marks the first time that CMU and DSC have played and the Red Storm won the only meeting with Pittsburgh State 85-84 on Nov. 27, 2009 in Saint George.

LAST TIME OUT:  Freshman Shannon Gough (Reno, NV/Reno) (Reno, NV/Reno) has silently been waiting her turn towards the end of Dixie State head coach Angie Kristensen's bench. Tonight she scored 12 points, connecting on four three pointers, capitalizing on the opportunity to lead the Red Storm past Point Loma Nazarene University 80-63 at the Burns Arena.
Entering tonight's game, the guard from Reno, Nevada, had connected on only one attempt in six tries and averaged just less than seven minutes a game. Gough, who is know for her three point shooting prowess, connected on four of five three pointers in 22 minutes to help DSC separate themselves from the Sea Lions.
Despite the solid play from Gough, the rest of the team struggled to find their groove and flow. The Red Storm shot just 38.5 percent from the field, well below their season average of 43.1 percent.
The Sea Lions jumped out to an early 11-5 lead, only to see the Red Storm take back the lead and build a five-point advantage 22-17 on an Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) jumper with 7:56 remaining in the half.
A scrappy Point Loma team, playing without their two leading scorers, scratched their way back to tie at 24-24 on a three pointer by Callie Rhoads with 4:48 left in the first half. Rhoads finished with a game-high 19 points.
The Red Storm ended the half on a 8-2 run to give them a 34-26 lead at intermission.
It was all Dixie State in the second half, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) grabbed seven of her 12 rebounds and scored six of her 13 points to earn her fourth consecutive and sixth double double of the season.
Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) who has been playing great basketball as of late, lead all DSC scorers with 14 points.
The gaurd play of Giles and Gough guided the Red Storm as they committed a season low 11 turnovers for the game.

AROUND THE PACWEST:  The Red Storm (4-0)remained in a three team race with Grand Canyon (3-0) and Academy of Art (2-0) with their win over Point Loma. Coach Kristensen and her staff will get an early look at AAU this week as they will be attending the Las Vegas Challenge.

SCOUTING the RED STORM: Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and the Red Storm have two things in common. They both have had success over their last five games. DSC has won five in a row and Brown, the leading scorer(13.7) and rebounder(11.8), has recorded five consecutive dobule-doubles. She was named to the PacWest honor for the fifth consecutive week. Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) (11.3) and Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) (10.0) are also averaging in double-figures. Point guard Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) was honored by the PacWest for the second consecutive week. As a team, Dixie State is averaging 77.2 ppg and shooting 42.5 percent from the field. They are outrebounding their opponents by 7.8 per game but are also averaging 2.6 more turnovers than the competition.

KRISTENSEN KORNER: “Obviously we have won a few games in a row so hoping we can take that confidence into this tournament. I know going into this what the MIAA is like.  It is a very physical league and we will have to play good basketball in order to win these games. Both teams are dangerous and we will have to play very well for 40 minutes to beat them.”

KRISTENSEN on LV CHALLENGE: “This tournament is a great venue for Dixie State.   I am excited at the caliber of competition and hopefully these games make us better.  Our non-conference schedule was difficult and I feel like it has prepared is for a tough stretch after Christmas break.   We are exited about the tournament.  The key is to keep your kids focused and not let them go on break too early.”

SCOUTING CENTRAL MISSOURI: A team that plays a fast paced offense, averaging 78.4 points a game and shoots at 45.9 percent from the floor and a are shooting 39.8 percent from behind the arc. Led by a pair of guards, Shelby Winkelmann (19.4) and BreAnna Lewis (15.6) who average in double figures. Forward Nicole Caddell has recorded double figures in her last four games and averages 12.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

KRISTENSEN on CENTRAL MISSOURI: “Central have some very high scoring guards that we have to contain who are athletic.    We need to take care of the ball and control the paint in order to win this game.”

SCOUTING PITTSBURG STATE: A team that plays a fast paced offense, averaging 78.4 points a game and shoots at 45.9 percent from the floor and a are shooting 39.8 percent from behind the arc. Led by a pair of guards, Shelby Winkelmann (19.4) and BreAnna Lewis (15.6) who average in double figures.
