GAME INFO:  The Red Storm welcome the Sea Lions of Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday night. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. MT.  Listen to the live action on the Red Storm Radio Network -- KXDS 91.3 FM -- and online via DixieAthletics.com with John Potter calling the play-by-play.

SERIES RECORD: This will mark the first time the two schools have played. Point Loma is a first year member in the Pacific West Conference and is in their first year of transition form an NAIA school to the NCAA.

LAST TIME OUT:  Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) gave the Dixie State women's basketball team the spark they needed by scoring 22 points off the bench to lead the Red Storm to an 87-64 win over Fresno Pacific today in Fresno, Calif. Hayes finished 9 for 14 from the field and to tie for game-high marks in scoring. The Red Storm remain perfect 3-0 in PacWest play and 5-3 overall and run their winning streak to four games. Coach Angie Kristensen said, "This was the best game Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) has played in a Dixie uniform and any time you can get a 20 plus win in conference we will take it.  We still have yet to play a complete game." The Red Storm led by only five points and intermission at 38-33. We got into foul trouble early which took us out of some things defensively but our bench did a great job of stepping up," continued Kristensen. DSC needed a great second half performance from guard Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) who scored all 14 of her points in the second half. The Storm shot near 50 percent in the second half to separate themselves from the Sunbirds. Fresno Pacific opened the second half on an 8-0 run and took the lead at 41-38 with 16:53 left. But the Red Storm responded with a 16-0 run of their own to build their largest lead of the game and never looked back. Kristensen added, "Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) continues to dominate the game." Brown added her third consecutive game with a double double by grabbing 13 rebounds and adding 17 points in just 29 minutes on the floor. Keairra White led FPU with 22 points, in which 12 of those came at the charity stripe. Dixie State outrebounded FPU 52-33 and took advantage of the Sunbirds inside by outscoring them 54-36 in the paint.

AROUND THE PACWEST:  The Red Storm remain atop the standing at 3-0, having won their last four games. Academy of Art and Grand Canyon it a game back at 2-0 and Cal Baptist, Hawaii Paciifc, and Point Loma each are 1-0.

KRISTENSEN KORNER: “Our team is starting to come together. I have seen spurts in games where we truly are one of the best teams we have put in a Dixie uniform, however our challenge has been to play the complete 40 minutes.  We tend to turn it on and off and that is what needs to change in order for us to be successful.   Games during finals week are always scary, because we know what the kids go through this week.  However now that we are done hopefully we can focus on our games.”

SCOUTING the RED STORM: Riding a four-game winning streak.  Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) leads DSC in scoring and rebounding with 13.3 ppg and 11.6 rpg, respectively. She was named to the PacWest honor for the fourth consecutive week. Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) (12.7) and Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) (10.0) are also averaging in double-figures. Point guard Jordan Giles (Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) was honored by the PacWest for her play at Fresno Pacifici. As a team, Dixie State is averaging 75.4 ppg and shooting 43 percent from the field. They are outrebounding their opponents by 7.1 per game but are also averaging 4.2 more turnovers than the competition.

SCOUTING POINT LOMA: The Sea Lions are 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the PacWest. Point Loma has not played a regular season game since Dec. 1 when it defeated Azusa Pacific at home in the PacWest-opener, 61-42. Jil Haentges came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points, which included hitting 4-of-5 shots from behind the arc. PLNU held APU to just 27 percent shooting and no student-athlete reached double-figures.  As a team, Point Loma is holding opponents to 52.4 points per game and 30 percent shooting. Only once this season has an opponent eclipsed the 60 point barrier. PLNU is also averaging 6.2 blocks per game. Nyla Bailey is leading Point Loma with 13 ppg. Carlotta Kloppenburg is the other Sea Lion averaging double-figures with 12.4 ppg and a team-leading 14 treys. Abby Boorman paces the team in both blocks (2.6) and rebounds (6.8). Savannah Erskine leads PLNU in assists (19) and free throw percentage (.857).

KRISTENSEN on POINT LOMA: “This is an important game to stay on top of the Pac West.  Point Loma is another new team to our conference.   They play a zone a majority of the time, so we must be patient, and hit shots when we have them. We have started to build some confidence and I hope that carries over this weekend.”
