TRAVEL TO THE YELLOWJACKET CLASSIC: After playing host to a classic of their own last week, the Red Storm make the trek northward to Billings, MT to play in the YellowJacket Classic hosted by Montana State Billings. MSUB also welcomes fellow PacWest member Notre Dame de Namur and RMAC member Colorado State University Pueblo. Dixie State will try and make right their defeat just seven days previous to MSUB on Friday night at 7:00 pm. Then on Saturday they take on CSUP at 5:00 pm.

STORM WATCH: DSC is off to a 1-2 start and lost back-to-back home games for the first time since 2007. Coach Angie Kristensen's squad narrowly were defeated 74-71 by MSUB before being blown out by Simon Fraser (GNAC) by 22 points. It was the worst home defeat in four seasons. In all three games this season the Red Storm have trailed at the half and had to put together a run in the second half to make it a game. In game one of the year against Cal Poly Pomona, DSC overcame a 15 point deficit and force overtime and secure their first win of the season. They werent so luck the other two games, falling just short against the Yellowjackets.
>Dixie State is led is scoring by Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) at 12.3 per game. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) averages 11.0 points and Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) chips in 10.0.
>Rebounding its all Brown at 11.3 and Munns at 6.3. Both help to give the Red Storm a plus 2.7 advantage in the in rebounding over their opponents.
>DSC has been solid in the shooting category, averaging 41.1 percent from the field and 28.3 from behind the arc.
>The trouble for the Red Storm has come at the guard position and taking care of the basketball. DSC averages 22 turnovers a game and their opponents just 13.3. That's a minus 8.7 ratio and 64 points or 21.3 points per game.

KRISTENSEN TALK: "We found out a lot about ourselves over the weekend. Where we want the direction of our program to go!  I knew going into this season this was going to be a tough non-conference season.  We scheduled very hard looking to prepare for the PacWest. We are making some adjustments and I think we will go into this weekend and turn the corner.  I think this team can play with anyone it is just a matter of believing that themselves. I feel like in order to be the best you need to beat the best and that is why schedule the way I do."

LAST TIME OUT: Leading the team in points for Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) for the second straight game was not enough as the Dixie State women's basketball team lost 74-52 to Simon Fraser on Saturday afternoon in the DSC Tip-Off Classic. Miller's team-high 14 points couldn't spark a DSC team that never could never get things going. The turnover bug once again plagued the Red Storm. They committed 24 turnovers that led to 26 Simon Fraser points.Despite shooting 42 percent from the field for the game, it was turnovers and the offensive glass that helped the Clan extinguish the Red Storm. SFU had 15 offensive boards that led to 20-second chance points. Dixie State only led once in the game at 3-0, and SFU used several runs to take a 32-22 lead into halftime. In the second half the Clan would build a lead by as many as 24 points with 3:52 remaining. The Red Storm team just could never get anything going. They allowed SFU too many second chance opportunities and turned the ball over. SFU attempted 18 more shots than the Red Storm and shot 42.6 percent from the field. Three Clan players finished in double-figures, Erin Chambers led all-scorers with 17 points, Chlesea Reist added 13 points and Kia Van Laare had 12. Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe added a game-high 10 rebounds. Miller led the Red Storm with 14, despite shooting 6 for 15 from the field and 2 for 7 from three-point range. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) added 10 points and six rebounds in just 17 minutes of time. "I'm frustrated with the way we played this weekend and we will have two work hard this week in practice to make some adjustments," said head coach Angie Kristensen. "We will get there!"

• MSUB YELLOWJACKETS (3-1)
>Thus far on the year MSUB is averaging 65.8 points per game and 33.5 rebounds per outing. The Yellowjackets have also been solid in taking care of the ball, forcing their opponents to 20.3 turnovers per game compared to their 13.8 average.
>While MSUB traditionally shoots the ball well from the field, they have been inconsistent early in the season and have a .369 field goal percentage. Despite this inconsistency, the Yellowjackets have been tenacious on defense, averaging 11.3 steals per match.
>Leading scorer is Bobbi Knudsen at 17.4 ppg. She also leads the team in assists. They have two others, Quinn Peoples (13.0) and Bobbi Knudsen(12.3) who average in double figures.
>Leading rebounders is Janiel Olson at 7.5 per contest.

COACH KRISTENSEN about the Yellowjackets: "We are fortunate to be able to play Montana again. They play very hard and we need to do a better job of taking advantage of our size.  They have guards that can shoot it and we need to do a better job of finding them."

• CSUP THUNDERWOLVES (2-0)
>Laurel Kearlsey was named the MVP of the Al Kaly Classic last week and led CSUP to their first ever victory over a ranked opponent. Their victim was 19th ranked Emporia State, who were defeated 66-53. She had 23 points in the game and averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds in their two games this past weekend.
>CSUP averages 39.7 percent from the field and holds their opponents to just 31.7 percent.
>Sophomore Katie Nehf is the other leading scorers for the Thunderwolves at 11 points per game.
>Colorado State-Pueblo is off to a 2-0 start in the 2012-13 season. Last season the Thunderwolves went 21-7 overall and 18-4 in the RMAC, en route to their fifth NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance

COACH KRISTENSEN about the Thunderwolves: "This will be the first time we have ever played Pueblo. I am looking forward to playing a new team!   They are coming off a very successful year making it to the tournament (NCAA) last year.  The RMAC is a very good conference and will be a good challenge for us."

MUNNS AND BROWN HONORED BY THE PACWEST: Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder) were honored this week in the second edition of the Weekly PacWest Fantastic 15. Munns averaged 10.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in a 1-2 week for the Red Storm…ranked ninth in shooting in the PacWest for the week…connected on 58.3% (14 for 24) of shots taken from the field during the week. Brown followed with and average of 11.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in a 1-2 week for the Red Storm…tied for 19th in scoring and ranked third in grabbing caroms off the glass for the week in the PacWest.
