Box Score

BELMONT, Calif.
Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) scored a career high 23 points and Becca Thomas (Riverside, CA/Redwood) earned her first career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Dixie State College women's basketball 76-63 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Storm (8-4, 3-1) shot 46 percent (30-65) and out rebounded the Argonauts (3-10, 1-3) 48-31 to pick up the pivotal PacWest Conference victory.

Coach Angie Kristsensen said, “This was a good win for us and it concluded a difficult road trip to the Bay Area.”

Hayes scored 17 of her game high 23 points in the first half, connecting on 7 of 11 from the floor and two of three from behind the arc.  Her jumper as time expired in the first half gave the Red Storm a 36-30 halftime lead.

Notre Dame de Namur used an 8-3 run to cut the DSC lead to one point with 17:12 left and took their first lead of the game at 42-41 one minute later when Jennifer Jasper connected on two free throws.

A Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon) steal and layup capped off an 11-1 DSC run that built their lead to 52-43 with 10:38 remaining in the game.  The Red Storm would lead by as many as 16 points in the contest.

For NDNU, three players scored in double figures with Jennifer Jasper leading the way with 20 points. Emily Vore chipped in 18 points and Natellie Saia added 13.

Despite turning the ball over 20 times in the contest, the Red Storm was able to convert the 16 Argonaut miscues into a win. The defense held NDNU to just 34.5 percent shooting from the field.

“The team played well and I'm proud of the way they finished,” concluded Kristensen.

The Red Storm will have six days off before hosting Dominican on Friday night January 13 at the Burns Arena. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
