HILO, Hawaii – The forward duo of Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) combined for 43 points as Dixie State College closed out their regular season with a dominating 81-43 victory over Hawaii-Hilo in Pacific West Conference play.

The Red Storm closed an incredible season with a 24-3 record including a 13-3 mark in the league.

Hill nailed one of her four three-pointers and Brown added a long jumper in a 7-0 spurt to give DSC an 11-4 lead.

With 6:34 left in the half, Brown stepped behind the arc for a shot – even head coach Angie Kristensen was surprised when the triple swished the net. “Things are going well if Johnna is hitting a three,” she said.

The Red Storm shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the opening twenty minutes and enjoyed 43-24 lead at halftime.

Junior guard Shiela Adams hit two jumpers including one from distance in an opening 7-0 spurt. The lead ballooned to 30 points with 13:16 remaining with a Veronica Siqueiros (Phoenix, AZ/Trevor G Brown) bucket.

With the game comfortably decided, no starter played more than 30 minutes.

Brown led the Red Storm with 22 points on eight of ten shooting. Hill posted a double-double of 21 points (7-11 FG) and 10 rebounds. Adams was the only other DSC player in double figures with 10 points.

DSC finished 15 of 25 from the field in the second half (60 percent) and 31 of 55 for the game (56.4 percent).

Sophomore guard Kirsti Imai led UH HIlo with 21 points in 32 minutes. The Vulcans shot under 30-percent to drop to 9-15 on the year and 5-11 in the Pac West.

Dixie State College is expected to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Division-II Tournament. Selections for the 64-team event will be unveiled Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Mountain on NCAA.com.

“The real season starts next weekend,” Kristensen said. “If our girs shoot as well as they did tonight, I think we can win the national championship.”
