WBB: Red Storm Drop Heartbreaker to Hawaii Pacific 53-50

Box Score HONOLULU, HAWAII-The 12th ranked Dixie State women's basketball team dropped a Pacific West Conference heartbreaker 53-50 to Hawaii Pacific University on Monday night in the Neil Blaisdell Center.

The Red Storm (22-3, 12-2 PWC) were trying to win their seventh straight game, but scored a season low 50 points. They managed to shoot only 37.5 percent from the field.

Hawaii Pacific (18-6, 12-3 PWC) led 31-21 at the break and took the lead from the Red Storm early in the first half and managed to hold on to it until the last two minutes of the game.

Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) scored 20 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, hit two free-throws with 1:34 left in the game two give the Red Storm a 50-49 lead.

Dixie State in their final two possessions of the game would miss a jumper and turn the ball over and be forced to foul giving HPU the upset victory.

Dixie State held HPU to 33.9 percent shooting and out rebounded them 45-39 but 22 turnovers seemed to be the demise of the Red Storm.

Coach Angie Kristensen said, "It is what it is, we need to learn from it and need to get better from here on out."
Hill was the only player scoring in double figures for DSC, she also grabbed 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) had only seven points and seven rebounds and Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) had five blocks and grabbed 12 boards in the loss.

For HPU Jazzmin Awa-Williams scored 12 points and Skye Savini had 10 points.

The Red Storm's hopes for a PacWest Conference title will have to have some help from HPU again when they play Grand Canyon on Saturday who now have the outright lead.

Dixie State finishes their Hawaiian road trip with a game at Chaminade on Wednesday and Hawaii Hilo on Saturday.
