PHOENIX, AZ-
The nation's leading scorer Samantha Murphy connected on 16-18 free throws and scored a game-high 38 points to lead #12-ranked Grand Canyon University to a 79-71 victory over the #10 ranked Dixie State College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in front of an announced crowd of 1,250 in Antelope Gymnasium.

The Red Storm (16-2, 6-1 PacWest) committed a season high 36 turnovers that led to 30 Grand Canyon (18-2, 6-1 PacWest) points and shot a dismal 22 percent (4-18) from three point range to break an eight game winning streak.

Trailing 10-6 early in the game, a 19-0 Red Storm run propelled them out in front and led by eight at intermission. Dixie State would hold onto to the lead until a Murphy lay-up with 8:06 left in the 2nd half game gave the Antelopes a 58-57 lead.

The teams would exchange baskets and free throws before Murphy would hit two three pointers and a jumper to give the Antelopes a 75-68 lead with 2:00 minutes left.

Despite a valiant effort to cut into the lead, GCU shot 27-32 from the free throw line and that seemed to be too much for the Red Storm to overcome. DSC only got to the foul line 12 times, connecting on nine of them.

Two Red Storm players earned double-doubles in the loss, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) scored 20 points and 11 rebounds and Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) had 10 points, 11 assists and added 8 rebounds. Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) added 12 points and three blocks. DSC finished the game shooting 44.6 percent from the floor.

For the Antelopes, Jallisa Butler scored 16 points and Rosalyn Nelson added 10 points. The Antelopes shot 41 percent from the field and committed only 21 turnovers.

Dixie State College will now return home for five consecutive games starting on Thursday night against Dominican University at 5:30 PM and again on Saturday against Academy of Art University.
