Utah Tech finished in solo 12
th place at the 57
th-Annual Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, which wrapped up play on Monday at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
After carding a 6-over par 294 in Saturday's opening round to stand in 13
th place, the Trailblazers improved by four shots on their second loop on Sunday, combining to fire a 2-over 290. However the team could not make up any ground on the field as Utah Tech remained in 13
th through 36 holes.
The Blazers then went out on Monday and shot a 5-over 293 and managed to move up one spot on the team leaderboard, finishing with a three-round total of plus-13 877.
Colorado (280-278-276) led wire-to-wire, blistering the course with three under-par rounds to post a 30-under par 834, 15 shots clear of both runners-up UTEP (285-289-275-849; -15) and Denver (285-285-279-849; -15).
Freshman
Chase Cesarek paced the Trailblazers as he finished in a three-way tie for 29
th at even par 216. Cesarek rolled in four birdies as part of a 1-under 71 on Friday, then followed that up with an even par 72 and a 1-over 73 over his final two loops with eight total birdies overall.
Junior
Jack Yu also played three rounds of steady golf, rebounding from an opening 2-over 74 with rounds of 71 and 73, along with a team-best 11 total birdies, to tie four others for 37
th at plus-2 218.
In addition, seniors
Nikko Taggart (79-73-72) and
Ashton McArthur (75-75-75) wound up in a six-way tie for 67
th place at plus-9 225, and junior
Frank Miao (74-74-79) tied for 76
th at plus-11 227.
Meanwhile, freshman
Max Landon made his collegiate debut in the Air Force Falcon Individual tournament, which was played on the Eisenhower Silver Course. After sinking five birdies as part of an opening round 73, the freshman rolled in six more birdies en route to a 1-under 71 to pull into a tie for ninth.
Landon followed that up on Monday with a collegiate career low 4-under 68 with five birdies and 12 pars to vault up three spots on the leaderboard into a tie for sixth place at minus-4 212.
Utah Tech will now enjoy a near four-week break before heading to NorCal to play at the Pacific Visit Stockton Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on Oct. 12-14, at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
