Utah Tech junior Jack Yu was named Big Sky Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after claiming medalist honors at the George Washington-hosted Monterrey Collegiate Classic earlier this week. 

After opening with a 1-over 73 on Monday morning, Yu bounced back with a 4-under 68 on his afternoon loop to tie for the 36-hole lead at 3-under 141. 

Yu, who penciled in 14 total birdies over his three rounds, then went out on Tuesday and fired a 5-under 67 with four more birdies and two eagles to finish at minus-8 208 to win the title by five shots over the 63-player field. 

With the victory, Yu became the eighth different Trailblazer in the program's NCAA era, and the third player in Utah Tech's Division I era, to claim medalist honors in an in-season tournament.
 
As a team, Utah Tech (300-287-288) climbed out of a tie for ninth after round one thanks to a second round 1-under 287 to stand in solo sixth at plus-11 587 through 36 holes. The Trailblazers then combined to shoot an even par 288 on Tuesday, which vaulted them up two spots into solo fourth place with a final team score of plus-11 875.
