Utah Tech opened the 2026-27 season by tying for runner-up honors at the Colorado State Ram Masters, which was played on Thursday and Friday at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins.

Friday's final result tied for the best overall finish in the program's brief NCAA Division I era. The Trailblazers also posted a runner-up showing at the same event in 2024, and placed third-overall at last season's CSU event.

After opening with a 5-over 285 to stand in tied for third place to begin play on Thursday morning, the Blazers fired the low round of the afternoon with a 2-over 282 to vault to the top of the team leaderboard with a three-shot lead on the 16-team field.

Utah Tech combined for four birdies on its first hole on Friday, but only managed three total birdies over its next eight holes and fell from the top spot on the board. The Blazers put together a big rally midway through their back nine, but had to settle for a tie for second after a final round 285 gave Utah Tech a team score of plus-12 852.

San Francisco (282-288-279-849; +9) combined to shoot a 1-under 279 on Friday to come away with the team title, while Cal State Fullerton (289-286-277-852; +12) carded the low team round of the event, a final round 3-under 277, to join Utah Tech in second place.

Junior Frank Miao was one of only six players in the field to post a par or better final score, as he bookended a pair of 1-over 71s with a second round 2-under 68 to finish in a two-tie for fifth at even par 210. Miao wound up with 12 total birdies and one eagle en route to his first collegiate top-five individual finish.

Fellow junior Jack Yu finished one shot out of the top-10 as he tied one other for 11th at plus-2 222 in his Trailblazer debut. After opening with a 71, Yu rolled in seven birdies on his second 18 on Thursday on his way to a 4-under 66 to stand alone in second place after 36 holes.

Yu, who penciled in a team-high 15 total birdies over his three loops, closed with a 5-over 75 on Friday.

Senior Ashton McArthur got off to a good start, opening with a 1-under 69, but rounds of 4-over 74 and 75 moved him into a six-way tie for 32nd at plus-8 228.

Senior Nikko Taggart, who also was one of three Utah Tech players making their Trailblazer debuts, bounced back from a 74 and a 7-over 77 with a final round 69 with four birdies, which moved him 28 spots into a logjam of 10 players tied for 47th at plus-10 230.

Meanwhile, freshman Chase Cesarek (78-74-70) combined to roll in 11 total birdies, and his first collegiate eagle, over the two days as he tied seven others for 57th at plus-12 232 in his first college event.

Utah Tech returns to Colorado next weekend to play the Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event will take place Sept. 19-21 at the USAFA Eisenhower Blue Course.
