Trailblazers Head to CBU for Final Regular Season Road Contest

The Trailblazers are 5-3 on the road this season as they are assured of their first winning record on the road since 2019.

OPENING SERVE
The Trailblazers close out their regular season road slate on Saturday afternoon at California Baptist at Van Dyne Gymnasium in Riverside, Calif.

LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK
The Trailblazers are coming off their 10th sweep of the season last Saturday taking down Southern Utah at Burns Arena.

Utah Tech took sets, 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 over the Thunderbirds while leading SUU in hitting percentage (.277-.038), kills (43-26), blocks (11-7), assists (41-23) & digs (50-36).

Led a career-high nine kills by sophomore outside hitter Emery Harrison, the Trailblazers also got nine kills from Nana Asiata along with seven apiece by Taylor Snow and Sydney Reese.

Marley Roe tallied a team-best 19 assists while Fried led the way defensively with six blocks.

Mya Laufiso added a team-best 18 digs, her third-most in a match this season and most since Sept. 20 at Air Force.

LAUFISO EARNS WAC LIBERO OF THE WEEK
Laufiso was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Libero of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Helping the Trailblazers sweep Southern Utah last Saturday, Laufiso led the team with 18 digs and added six assists in Utah Tech's 10th sweep of the season.

It was her third-highest dig total of the season, behind only matches against Denver and Air Force, and most in a WAC match since defeating Utah Valley in five sets on Nov. 2, 2024.

GLANCE AT THE CALIFORNIA BAPTIST LANCERS
California Baptist is 6-15 overall on the season and sits sixth in the WAC with a 2-7 mark.

The Lancers, who are 4-3 at home, but 0-8 on the road, have dropped four straight matches and have WAC victories over UT Arlington and Abilene Christian.

CBU, who host Southern Utah on Thursday, ranks third in the WAC in service aces (115), fourth in aces per set (1.42), blocks per set (2.04) and total attacks (2.534).

Individually, senior right side hitter Eliana Posada is fifth in hitting percentage (.293) while sophomore outside hitter Emery DeJong (3.37) is third & Posada (2.78) is seventh in kills per set.

Redshirt sophomore setter Maddie Brown is fourth in the WAC in assists per set (7.13) and sophomore libero Gianna Perez is sixth in digs per set (2.41).

SERIES HISTORY VS. CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
The Trailblazers and Lancers have met 26 times in series history with California Baptist leading, 17-9.

Utah Tech swept CBU at home on Oct. 2 taking sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-18, led by 18 kills from Kennedi Knudsen while Roe and Tehanie Waters each had a team-best 16 assists.

Snow led the charge defensively with four blocks while Laufiso tallied a team-high eight digs.

The Trailblazers are 1-9 in Riverside against the Lancers with their lone win coming in four sets in 2021.

WHERE UTAH TECH RANKS IN THE WAC IN 2025
As a team, the Trailblazers lead the WAC in assists per set (12.16), hitting percentage (.226), kills per set (13.36), attacks per set (35.68), opponent hitting percentage (.149 - 6th nationally) & digs per set (14.55). 

UT ranks second in blocks per set (2.88 - 9th nationally), total blocks (216.0 - 52nd nationally) & third in kills (1,002), assists (912) and total attacks (2,676).

Casidy Fried leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.330), ranks third in the WAC in blocks per set (1.33) & fourth in blocks (100). 

Taylor Snow checks in fifth in the WAC in blocks (93) & blocks per set (1.27).

Laufiso ranks fourth in the WAC in total digs (282) & digs per set (3.76). Marley Roe checks in fifth in assists per set (5.88) & assists (441).

WINNING WAYS
With their win over Southern Utah last Saturday, the Trailblazers have reached 16 wins for the eighth time in Utah Tech's 20 seasons in the NCAA era.

It is the most wins in a season since 2019 & joins 2009 (18), 2013 (17), 2014 (22), 2015 (19), 2016 (17), 2018 (22) & 2019 (20).

With victories in their final three regular season matches, it will only be the fifth season with 19 or more wins.

BLOCKS
The Trailblazers have notched 17 matches with more blocks than their opponents this season and are 14-3 when leading holding an advantage in blocks.

Utah Tech tallied a season-high 18 blocks on Oct. 23 at home against Abilene Christian tallying two solo blocks and 32 block assists.

The 18.0 total blocks and 32 block assists are both tied for the third-most in a single match in program history.

FRIED & SNOW CLIMBING THE CAREER BLOCK CHARTS
Both Fried and Snow continue to climb the career block charts as Fried enters Saturday tied for sixth all-time with 242.0 blocks and Snow sits eighth with 222.0 blocks.

Snow is fifth in solo blocks with 39 while Fried is sixth with 33. Fried is seventh all-time in block assists (209) and Snow ranks 10th (183).

On the season, Fried entered the top 10 in a single season in block assists (87) and total blocks (100).

RPI RANKINGS
The Trailblazers enter action on Thursday (Nov. 6) as the top-ranked team from the WAC in the RPI checking in at 112.

The remaining WAC programs see Utah Valley (152), Tarleton State (216), UT Arlington (247), Abilene Christian (248), California Baptist (285) and Southern Utah (317).

SWEEPS ON SWEEPS
The Trailblazers have notched 10 sweeps this season for their fourth-most sweeps in a season. 

Utah Tech notched 13 in both 2016 & 2018 and a record 14 in 2011.

WINS PILING UP
Entering action on Thursday (Nov. 6), 79 Division I teams have posted 16 or more wins this season.

Xavier and Nebraska lead the nation with 22 victories.

ON THE ROAD
Since joining the NCAA ranks in 2006, Utah Tech has recorded a 106-110 (.491) record in true-road matches and has logged a winning record on the road nine times (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019).

Additionally, the Trailblazers have posted a 48-54 (.471) record in neutral-site contests.

The Trailblazers' five road wins are their most in the Division I era and most since 2019 (6).

UT is 5-3 on the road this season to assure themselves of their first winning season on the road since 2019.

HOME COOKING
The Trailblazers are off to their first-ever 7-0 home start and with wins in their final two home matches next week, it will be the seventh time in program history Utah Tech has won nine or more home matches and first time going undefeated at home. 

UT tallied nine wins apiece for four straight seasons from 2013-16, 12 wins in 2018 & 14 victories in 2019.

2025 WAC TOURNAMENT SET FOR ABILENE
Heading into their final season in the WAC, the Trailblazers will play in their second straight WAC Tournament hosted by Abilene Christian on Nov. 20-22 as they look to punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

The Trailblazers close out the regular season next week hosting Tarleton State (12-8, 6-2 WAC) on Nov. 13 and UT Arlington (11-10, 3-6 WAC) for Senior Day on Nov. 15.
