Trailblazers Topped by EKU on Senior Day

Utah Tech closed the 2025 season, and its membership in the United Athletic Conference, on the wrong end of a 33-10 home decision to Eastern Kentucky on Senior Day Saturday at Greater Zion Stadium.

After suffering their first shutout loss of the season last week at West Georgia, the Trailblazers (2-10/1-7 UAC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard against EKU.

Utah Tech received the opening kickoff, and redshirt freshman quarterback Bronson Barben led the offense on a seven-play, 75-yard drive that culminated with a 12-yard touchdown pass to running back Chris Street. Barben threw for 63 of those 75 yards, 45 of which came on a strike over the middle to Tru Tanner on 2nd and 6 from the Blazer 40.

EKU (5-7/3-5 UAC) quickly countered with a touchdown of its own on its opening possession when quarterback Myles Burkett found Jayden West from 14 yards out to knot the score at 7-7. Burkett would later toss an 18-yard pass to Jakobie Hughes to spot the Colonels to a 14-7 lead with 12:04 to play until halftime.

Trailing by that same score late in the second quarter, the Utah Tech defense rose up and forced the first turnover of the game when linebacker Will Alovao punched the ball away from Burkertt on a QB keeper near midfield. Moe Passi then pounced on the loose ball to set the Blazer offense up at the 50 yard line with 42 seconds on the clock.

The Trailblazer offense managed to advance the ball to the EKU 32 to set up a 50-yard field goal attempt by Ilya Uvaydov with two seconds remaining. The junior placekicker converted his fifth field goal of 50-plus yards of the season, and the sixth of his career, to make at 14-10 game at the halftime break.

Unfortunately for the home side, that field goal would be the final points for the Blazers as EKU scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to clinch the road victory.

Utah Tech was held to season-low 197 yards of total offense on the afternoon, with Barben throwing for 130 of those yards on 18-for-29 passing. Redshirt senior running back Chris Street rushed for a season-high 51 yards on 11 carries and finished with 71 all-purpose yards.

On defense, junior linebacker Logan Pili racked up a game and career high 11 total tackles, while seniors Cody Carlson (1.5 sacks) and Moon Ashby (0.5 sacks) combined for both Blazer sacks on the day.

EKU wound up with 394 yards of offense, with Burkett throwing for 130 of those yards on 12-for-19 passing and tallied 67 more yards on the ground.
