(St. George, Utah - Oct. 2, 2025) - The Trailblazer volleyball returned home for the first time in nearly a month on Thursday night sweeping California Baptist in its WAC home opener at Burns Arena.
Utah Tech (11-3, 2-0 WAC) took sets 25-17, 25-13, 25-18 over California Baptist (5-10, 1-2 WAC) to complete its eighth sweep of the season.
Senior outside hitter
Kennedi Knudsen led the way with 18 kills while a pair of setters
Marley Roe and
Tehanie Waters each had a team-best 16 assists.
Senior middle blocker
Taylor Snow led the charge defensively with four blocks while
Mya Laufiso tallied a team-high eight digs.
How It Happened
Falling behind 10-8 early in the opening set, the Trailblazers ripped off a 5-0 run with back-to-back kills by Knudsen to jump ahead 13-10.
The Lancers stayed close midway through the set trailing 16-15 before UT ripped off an 8-1 run to jump ahead 24-16 getting a kill from Knudsen to close out the opening set.
Getting out to a 10-8 lead to start the second set, a 3-0 run pushed UT ahead by five with the Lancers pulling within three (15-12) after a kill.
Eight straight points for the Trailblazers extended UT's lead to 23-12 and kills by
Tessa Treanor and Fried earned a 12-point win.
A 4-1 run for UT early in the third set pushed the Trailblazers in front, 13-9.
A kill by Roe kept UT in front by three and after a point for CBU, the Trailblazers used three straight kills and back-to-back blocks to seal the sweep.
Numbers to Know
- The Trailblazers improve to 4-2 in WAC home openers and are off to their second straight 2-0 start to WAC play.
- Utah Tech led California Baptist in kills (44-31), service aces (7-1), blocks (5-1), digs (35-32) and hitting percentage (.389-.159).
- The Trailblazers are one more sweep away from matching the nine sweeps they had in 2024.
- It was the 13th time this season Knudsen has led the Trailblazers in kills.
