Trailblazers Tripped Up at UNLV Wednesday

Utah Tech could not dig itself out on an early-inning hole as the Trailblazers suffered their fifth-straight loss, 7-2, at UNLV on Wednesday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

The Trailblazers (8-24) found themselves facing a 5-0 deficit after four innings complete. UNLV struck for four second-inning runs and managed to tack on another run in the home fourth.

After pounding out 12 hits in Tuesday night's series opener, the Utah Tech bats were held in check as the Trailblazers were limited to only fourth-inning singles through their first six offensive frames.

Utah Tech had another chance to cut into the Rebels' lead in the seventh after Ethan He singled and Morgan Albrecht walked with one out on the frame. However the Blazers could only push across one run, which came on a two-out Levi Randall base hit that scored He from third.

UNLV (17-15) would put the game out of reach after the stretch with two more runs and would coast the rest of the way en route to the overall season series sweep.

The Trailblazers wound up with seven hits on the afternoon, with Randall and Brennen Study each collecting two hits apiece.

Utah Tech returns home for a three-game WAC series vs. Tarleton State this weekend at Bruce Hurst Field. Friday's series opener will start at 6:05 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 2:05 p.m., and Sunday's series finale at 12:05 p.m.
