Utah Tech saw its winless streak reach six-straight as the Trailblazers dropped a 16-2 decision in eight innings to visiting Tarleton State in the opening game of a three-game WAC series on Friday night at Bruce Hurst Field.
After a scoreless first inning, the Texans (19-14/9-7 WAC) tallied nine unanswered runs over their next five offensive frames to bolt out to a commanding 9-0 lead.
Meanwhile, the Trailblazers (8-25/6-10 WAC) were held to just one base hit, that a
Hank Dodson one-out single in the fourth, and three total base runners through six innings complete.
Utah Tech was able to avoid the shutout in the home eighth thanks to a
Kyle McDaniel two-run single, but that came after Tarleton State put up seven more runs in the top of half of the stanza.
The Blazers managed to collect four hits on the night, including a
Brennen Study seventh-inning single, while
Chase Rodriguez recorded his 100
th-career base hit with a lead-off double in the eighth.
The two teams will play the middle game of their WAC weekend series on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:05 p.m.
