Utah Tech opened the road portion of its 2024 schedule on the wrong end of a 24-4 decision at PAC-12 power Arizona on Tuesday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.
Â
The Trailblazers (1-4) actually got off to a great start with three first-inning runs to open up an early lead.
Â
Kyle McDaniel doubled to lead off the game and would scamper home with the game's first run two batters later on an
Aaron Perez base hit to right field. After
Chase Rodriguez kept the inning alive with a two-out walk,
Ethan He doubled down the left field line to chase home both Blazer base runners.Â
Â
Arizona (3-1) quickly answered with two runs in each of the first and third innings, which bookended a six-run second frame, as the Wildcats erased the deficit and bolted out to a commanding 10-3 advantage.
Â
Utah Tech got one of those runs back in the fourth thanks to a two-out Wildcat error, but that would be as close as the Blazers would get as Arizona scored runs in four of its final five offensive frames to cruise to the midweek home victory.Â
Â
The Trailblazers collected seven hits in the game, with the two first-inning doubles from McDaniel and He serving as the team's lone extra-base hits on the afternoon.Â
Â
Utah Tech now returns home for four-straight games, starting with a three-game series vs. CSUN this weekend at Bruce Hurst Field. Friday's series opener will start at 6:05 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 2:05 p.m., and Sunday's series finale at 12:05 p.m.
