Utah Tech combined to break one school record and claimed one event victory on day one of the Trailblazers' two-team dual meet at Northern Arizona on Friday afternoon at the NAU Wall Aquatic Center.
The meet got underway with the Blazers' 200-yard medley relay team of seniors
Eleonore Rembert,
Skyler Lyon,
Danyael Cuison, and junior
Mandy Farnum placing third with a time of 1:43.09, which was the fifth-fastest relay time in program history.
In the first individual race of the day, freshman
Abigail Hill placed sixth-overall in the 200 fly with an altitude-adjusted time of 2:05.14 (#8 all-time at Utah Tech). Lyon would follow that up by touching the wall first in the 200 breast in 2:17.16 (altitude adjusted; #3 all-time at Utah Tech).
Freshman
Grace Benson made program history when she clocked the first sub-one minute time in the 100 individual medley with second-place time of 57.20 (altitude adjusted), while fellow freshman
Mary Sims Cross clocked the second-fastest time with a 57.99 (altitude adjusted) to follow in third place.
Utah Tech closed day one with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay, with the team of Rembert, Benson, sophomore
Natalia Zmierczak and Farnum posting an altitude-adjusted time of 3:28.05.
Utah Tech and NAU will return to the pool for day two of the weekend dual on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. (MST).
