Utah Tech dropped the penultimate game of its 2023 season by a 12-3 count at Sacramento State on Friday night at John Smith Field.
As they did in Thursday night's series opener, the Trailblazers (13-38/8-21 WAC) jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead, this time it was thanks to a
Zach Thomas single and
Blake Borgogno RBI-groundout.
From there it was all Hornets (29-26/13-16 WAC) as they struck for two runs in the home first, five runs in the third, and plated two more runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to clinch the conference series win.
The Blazers were limited to five hits in the loss. Lead-off hitter
Parker Schmidt doubled and finished with two hits and a walk to go with a run scored. Meanwhile,
Sean Keating connected for his seventh home run of the season with two outs in the eighth.
Utah Tech will wrap up the 2023 campaign in Saturday's series finale beginning at 12 noon (PT).
