Utah Tech wrapped up the 2023 season with a 11-2 loss at Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at John Smith Field. The Trailblazers finished the year with a 13-39 overall record, which included an 8-22 mark in Western Athletic Conference play.
Â
Sacramento State (30-26/14-16 WAC) bolted out to a commanding 6-0 lead after three innings complete, striking for single runs in both the first and third innings that bookended a four-run second frame.
Â
Meanwhile Utah Tech was held to just three hits over the first six innings of play before breaking through with a
Sean Keating two-run home run that cut the Trailblazer deficit to 6-2.
Â
However the Hornets would clap back with one run in the home seventh and four more in the eighth to wrap up the series sweep.
Â
Keating, who also homered in Friday night's game two loss, finished 2-for-4 with those two RBI in his final game as a Trailblazer.Â
Â
Blazer lead-off hitter
Parker Schmidt accounted for three of Utah Tech' six hits on the day, which extended his hit streak to six-straight games, and he stole a base in his final game in a Trailblazer uniform.Â
Â
In addition, senior
Tyson Fisher collected his 203
rd and final base hit of his storied Trailblazer career in the seventh inning.Â
