Utah Tech could not overcome a torrid Utah Valley start as the Trailblazers dropped the middle game of their weekend WAC home series to their in-state rivals, 23-5 in seven innings, on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
UVU (23-19/9-9 WAC) ambushed the Trailblazers with 11 first-inning runs as the first nine Wolverine hitters reached base safely to open the game. Utah Valley sent 15 batters to the plate in the frame, 10 of whom recorded base hits.
Â
Utah Tech (10-32/5-15 WAC), which hit six home runs in its 13-8 series opening win on Friday night, could only muster five total hits on the day.
Garrett Cutting had one of those hits, a fifth-inning solo home run to left field, while
Sean Keating drove in a pair of runs with a single as part of a three-run Blazer third.Â
Â
The Trailblazers will look to clinch the series win in the rubber game of the three-game set on Sunday afternoon at 12:05 p.m.
