Utah Tech wrapped up its first road trip of the season with a 9-1 midweek loss at Arizona State on Tuesday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Â
The Trailblazers (5-13) broke a scoreless draw with their lone run in the top of the third inning, which came when
Bryker Hurdsman raced home on the back end a two-out double steal attempt.
Â
However from there it was all Sun Devils (10-7), who belted two home runs as part of a five-run home third, and pushed three more runs across in the fourth to race out to a commanding 8-1 advantage.
Â
Meanwhile, four ASU pitchers combined to limit Utah Tech to just three hits from the fourth inning on, and retired 12 of the final 14 Trailblazer batters faced to close out the game.
Â
Utah Tech was limited to just five hits on the night, with Hurdsman collecting two of those safeties out of the lead-off spot, including a two-out double in the UT third that set up the lone run.Â
Â
The Trailblazers will play six of their next seven games at home, beginning with their 2023 WAC opening series vs. New Mexico this weekend at Bruce Hurst Field. Friday's series opener will start at 6:05 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 2:05 p.m., and Sunday's series finale at 12:05 p.m.
