Utah Tech swimming combined to break one school record and post several top-10 program marks during the opening day of the 2023 Trailblazer Invitational on Thursday at the DSU HPC Pool.

UTU opened the evening session with a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:35.46, which was the seventh-fastest relay time in program history history.

In the 500 free, junior
Paulina Sansores won the "C" final in a time of 5:02.68, while freshman
Cera Mallory followed in second place in 5:06.48.

The Trailblazers posted their first record-breaking performance of the 2023-24 season in the 200 IM, where freshman
Mary Sims Cross touched the wall in 2:04.52 to place seventh-overall in the "A" final heat.Â

Earlier in the day, Cross qualified for the championship heat with a time of 2:05.40, which ended up as the fourth-fastest mark in program history. Meanwhile, fellow freshman
Grace Benson clocked the seventh-fastest 200 IM mark with a preliminary heat time of 2:06.22.Â

In the final event of day one, the 400 medley relay, the Blazers' "A" team posted the fourth-fastest time in UTU history with a fifth-place 3:45.41.Â

In addition, the "B" team swam the ninth-fastest relay time in program history with a 10
th-place time of 3:49.74. Â
