Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Trailblazers stun Texans in 70-44 win on Thursday night

Utah Tech women's basketball had a three-point night in a 70-44 routing of the Tarleton State Texans.

What Head Coach JD Gustin said: "Our intent to rebound was a little better tonight and that helped us have one of our better defensive performances of the season. It was good to see Emily find her groove in the first half and then after a slow 3rd, we did a good job in the offensive transition in the 4th to secure the win. Overall I thought we were a bit sluggish and so I'm glad we were still able to take care of business."

How it happened: The Trailblazers came out on fire from the three-point arc. The Trailblazers had five three's in the opening quarter of play. Midway through the opening quarter the Blazers went from level at five apiece to a 8-0 run to a comfortable lead. From there, the Blazers ended the quarter with an 11 point lead.

In the second quarter the three continued to fall for Utah Tech. Emily Isaacson hit three back-to-back triples to put herself at 17 points at the halftime break. Isaacson's triples, paired with two of her own from McCord helped the Blazers to a game-high 18 point lead at the break, up 41-23.

The third quarter was a bit slower for the Trailblazers. After coming out sluggish from the halftime break, Utah Tech hit just two shots in the third quarter and the Texans were able to draw the game closer to just a 10-point split at 45-45 going into the final quarter.

Brooke Vance came in off the bench in the fourth quarter and was a game-changer for the Trailblazers. She hit a jumper just 30 seconds into the quarter and started a 12-point quarter for herself. Vance had 12 of the teams 25 points in the fourth quarter to help the Trailblazers to a dominant win.

At the end of four quarters the Trailblazers stunned the Texans by a 70-44 scoreline.

Leaders: Utah Tech was led by Emily Isaacson who posted 22 points, three steals and two rebounds.

Brooke Vance had a career night with her first double-double. She had 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Additionally she tacked on three steals.

Maggie McCord was one rebound shy of her own double-double with 9 rebounds alongside 14 points.

Gillen led the team in assists with nine, adding to her total as the all-time assist leader in Utah Tech history.

Comparison: Utah Tech ended the game shooting 50 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from the three and 75 percent from the free throw line. UT totaled 42 rebounds, 18 assists, nine steals and 18 turnovers.

Tarleton State shot 29 percent from the field, 28 percent from the three and 66 percent from the free throw line. The Texans totaled 27 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals and 15 turnovers.

Notes to Know: Utah Tech is now 13-6 on the season and 5-3 in conference play.

Next Up: Utah Tech will host Seattle U next on the 28th. The team will then head out on the road for a pair of games in Texas versus UTRGV and UT Arlington.
