Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Utah Tech picks up 1-0 victory over St. Thomas

Utah Tech women's soccer maintained a strong offensive pace Monday morning to come away with a 1-0 win over St. Thomas.

What Head Coach Molly Rouse said: After a tough loss on Saturday, we were pleased with todays bounce back performance from the team. Knowing the physical, mental and emotional demands of the second game on a weekend, we were prepared in our objectives to combat those challenges. It was encouraging to see the team improve in our final third execution, while securing the win with a clean sheet. We are excited about this stepping point in the season and we look forward to our preparation for Sunday's home match verse the University of South Dakota.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Trailblazers started the game off with a strong offensive attack by putting up three shots in the first seven minutes. Karli Nyland was able to place one on frame in the fifth minute but it was saved by the Tommies' keeper.

The Tommies only got one shot on goal in the first half at the 38th minute and Utah Tech's Kayla Thompson came away with the save to keep things at 0-0 going into halftime.

In the 54th minute, McKinley Barney put the ball on frame to set the momentum in favor of the Trailblazers in the second half.

UT went on to get four shots off over the next 15 minutes and locked down on defense preventing St. Thomas from getting any shots.

In the 70th minute, Karli Nyland broke through the back line and found herself in a one on one with St. Thomas' center back. Nyland then sent the ball into the opposite corner of the net for a Trailblazer goal which was ultimately the game winner.

Utah Tech had one more strong push for a goal in the 74th minute. Utah Tech had a corner kick and Lauren Buxton was able to get the ball on frame in the bottom left corner but St. Thomas came away with the save.
