Box Score Utah Tech men's soccer opened its 2022 regular season with a tough 5-0 loss at Wisconsin.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The match opened with both sides trading shots, but Wisconsin got on the board quickly after just 15 minutes of play. The goal came off a freekick from atop the 18-yard box. Though the initial shot ricocheted off the far post, the Badgers were able to recover the ball and send it home past Trailblazer keeper
Cuba Grant.
The Badgers found two more goals before the half, one off a ball that split two Trailblazer defenders and another with a powerful, well-placed shot from 20 yards out that slid past the Trailblazer defense and into the back of the net. The Badgers held the 3-0 lead headed into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Trailblazers were able to get some looks at goal including two shots from Jimi Villasenor and one from Larsen Rogers, but they were unable to find the back of the net on any of these chances. Despite their best efforts, the Trailblazers were shutout on the night.
In the dying moments of the match, the Trailblazers gave up two back-to-back penalty kicks, just three minutes apart from one another. Wisconsin's Inaki Iribarren was able to put both away, adding two more to the Badgers tally, ending the game 5-0 in favor of Wisconsin.
