Dixie State closed the 2021-22 regular season with a 12th-place finish at the BYU PING Cougar Classic on Saturday at Riverside Country Club in Provo.

After battling through lightning delays and poor weather conditions on Friday (292-304-291-887; +12), the Trailblazers found themselves in 12th after their opening 18. DSU got through the front nine during Friday's second loop before darkness halted play for the day, but the Blazers could not gain any ground on the field on Saturday.

Host BYU (270-289-273-832; -32) claimed the team title, by seven shots over runner-up San Diego (273-279-287-839; -25), while Colorado State (281-294-276-851; -13) was the only other team in the field to post a red number in placing third.

Sophomore Josh Pehrson (66-76-68) enjoyed a banner weekend as he recorded his first collegiate top-10 finish with a t-seventh showing at minus-6 210. Pehrson opened with a collegiate career-low 6-under 66 on Friday, which was highlighted by a career-best seven birdies.

Then after a second round 4-over 76, the sophomore came back with five more birdies and an eagle as part of a final round 4-under 68 on Saturday. Pehrson finished the event tied for 10th in the 83-player field in total birdies (13) and was t-third in par-4 scoring (3.80).

Meanwhile, freshman Taft Lewis (76-76-74) tied three others for 60th-place at plus-10 226, followed by junior Davis Heslington (78-77-72) in t-64th at plus-11 227, senior Brock Nielson (75-75-78) in t-66th at plus-12 228, and senior Spencer Wallace (75-79-77) in t-73rd at plus-15 231.

Two other Trailblazers played as individuals in the event, with sophomore Camron Saunders (74-73-75) placing t-44th at plus-6 222, while junior Triston Gardner opened with a 1-over 73 on Friday, but did not record a score in either of the final two rounds.

Dixie State will wrap up the season at the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships, which will be held next weekend, April 29-May 1, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
