Trailblazers drop double header against Colorado Mesa

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dixie State women's tennis lost it's double header against Colorado Mesa University with two 3-4 results.

The Trailblazers lost the first match of the day 3-4, but started off strong by winning the doubles point. In the No. 1 spot Juliana Honczaruk and Rachel Mellor played to a quick 6-0 win. Ya-Chi Hsu and Alexandra Hildreth took the No. 2 game as well, winning 6-1. The Trailblazers lost the No. 3 set, but still took the doubles point on the day.

The Blazers fought hard in singles play, taking two singles points on the day. The Blazers first singles point came from Mellor in the No. 4 spot. She took her win in just two sets, battling hard for a 6-3 and 6-2 win. 

Hildreth finished off the first match for the Blazers, earning a point with a long win with 7-5 and 6-3 set scores. Hildreth battled hard from the No. 1 spot in the narrow loss of match one.

In match two of the double header the Blazers were unable to snag the doubles point. Honczaruk and Mellor in the No. 2 spot had a dominant 6-1 win but the No. 1 and 3 matches were unable to find wins and CMU took the doubles point.

Singles play improved from match one for the Blazers. Longson got the ball rolling for the Blazers with a win in the No. 3 spot getting two 6-1 wins to earn the Blazers their first point of the second match.

Following Longson's impressive performance, Mellor won two quick 6-0 sets to earn the second point.

Honczaruk took home the final point of the day for the Trailblazers from the No. 2 spot where she had two hardfought wins beating Colorado Mesa 6-3 and 6-4 in her two sets.

With just the No. 1 singles spot up for grabs, the Trailblazers were tied 3-3 with just Hildreth's set left to finish. Despite a great fight from Hildreth, she was unable to get a set win and the Blazers would lose narrowly to Colorado Mesa in the afternoon.

The day was filled with strong individual performances including Cami Oyama's first singles set as a Trailblazer. Additionally, Hsu competed in the No. 1 doubles spot for her first time this season against Colorado Mesa.

The Blazers will have a couple weeks without matches before starting conference play on April 1 against New Mexico State in Seattle. That match is set to begin at 8 a.m. (PT). The Blazers will also face Grand Canyon in Seattle on April 2 at 8 a.m. (PT) before returning home for their final home match of the season against Santa Clara on April 8 at noon.
