Utah Tech women's basketball came away with a thrilling 82-62 victory over Texas A&M Commerce Saturday afternoon.
What head coach
JD Gustin said: "We have a ton of respect for Texas A&M Commerce, that was a terrific win for our team. I'm proud of the way we persevered through a rough third quarter. We didn't share the ball like we usually do or want to but we did make enough plays to get the job done."
How it happened: The Trailblazers wasted no time getting a big jump on the Lions thanks to a 14-4 run in the midst of the first quarter.
Emily Isaacson knocked down two threes during the run while
Maggie McCord and
Macie Warren each added a made bucket beyond the arc as well. As the first quarter ended, UT had a 27-14 lead over TAMC.
Utah Tech was the first to score in the second quarter thanks to a made jumper by Breaunna Gillen. The Trailblazers put together a 9-2 run in the second quarter to help propel them to a 44-27 lead at half time.
Texas A&M Commerce started the second half on a 9-2 run. The Trailblazers answered with a 10-2 run to maintain a seven point lead going into half time.
The fourth quarter Utah Tech started it with a 13-2 run holding TAMC to just those two points for over six minutes of play. The Trailblazers ended the game with an 82-62 final score.
Leaders: Utah Tech had four Trailblazers in double figures and were led by Warren's 18 points. Warren also pulled down eight rebounds for UT. McCord and Gillen each recorded 17 points and McCord recorded her second double-double of the season with the game high of 13 rebounds.
Isaacson was the final Blazer with double digits with 13 points going 4-7 from the three.
Comparison: Utah Tech ended the game shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 43.3 percent from the three and 88.2 percent from the free throw line. UT totaled 50 rebounds, 13 assists, six steals and 20 turnovers.
Texas A&M Commerce shot 33.3 percent from the field, 22.2 percent from the three and 50 percent from the free throw line. The Lions totaled 41 rebounds, 15 assists, 11 steals and 21 turnovers.
Notes to Know: Utah Tech is now 5-2 on the season.
