Trailblazers Rout The Master's on Saturday Night, 100-58

Utah Tech picked up its third-straight victory on the strength of a 100-58 rout of The Master's University on Saturday night inside the Burns Arena.

How it happened
The Trailblazers (6-5/0-0 WAC) led wire-to-wire, thanks in large part to a hot start offensively. UT opened the game hitting three-straight 3-pointers and eight of its first nine shots (5-of-6 3FG) overall to jump out an early double-digit lead.

Despite the hot start, the Blazers could not shake the Mustangs (9-3), who managed to make a nine-point game at 28-19 midway through the first half thanks to 10 early points from Caden Starr.

However UT outscored TMU 23-8 to close the frame to take a 51-27 lead into the halftime break.

Utah Tech did not see its lead dip below 20 points in the second half as the Trailblazers rolled to their third home victory of the season.

Numbers to know
Cameron Gooden paced four Trailblazers in double figures with 15 points, with eight of those coming at the foul line (8-of-8 FT). The senior also dished out four assists and had two steals.

Jacob Nicolds continued his torrid shooting as he hit all five of his field goal attempts, including 3-of-3 from the perimeter, to finish with a season-high 14 points.

Isaiah Pope also poured in 18 points on 4-of-8 shooting with a pair of threes and pulled down a game and career-high eight rebounds.

Tanner Christensen added 13 points on 5-of-7 from the floor with six rebounds and two blocked shots before fouling out.

In fact, all 14 Trailblazers who saw time in the blowout win scored at least two points.

Gooden (814 pts) and Frank Staine (5 pts; 800 pts) became the latest two players in the program's NCAA era to surpassed 800 career points.

Utah Tech shot 53.3 percent (32-of-60) for the game, including a 45.8 clip (11-of-24) from beyond the arc. UT has now shot 50 percent or better in three-straight games and in five games overall this season.

UT hit on 25-of-32 (.781) from the foul line and outrebounded UTM 41-31. The Trailblazers also dished out 20 assists on their 32 made field goals.

Starr led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. The Master's shot 35.6 percent (21-of-59) from the floor on the night and was 6-of-28 (.214) from the perimeter.

Utah Tech's 42-point victory is the sixth-largest margin of victory in the program's NCAA era, and is the second-largest during its Division-I transition. Saturday's winning margin eclipsed the previous season-best of 41 points, set eight days ago in the home win over
Chapman University (99-58; 12/9/22).

The Trailblazers' 100 points on Saturday night are the most this season and marked the first time UT had hit the century mark in points in just over one calendar year. UT scored 114 points in a home win over SAGU-American Indian College (114-49; 12/15/21).

Up next
Utah Tech will quickly turn around and host Westmont College this upcoming Monday night. Tip-off inside the Burns Arena is slated for 7 p.m.
