Trailblazers Blow By Westmont for Their Fourth-Straight Win on Monday, 80-53

Cameron Gooden led four Trailblazers in double figures with 17 points as Utah Tech pushed its win streak to four games with an 80-53 victory over Westmont College on Monday night inside the Burns Arena.

How it happened
Utah Tech (7-5/0-0 WAC), which never trailed for the second-straight night, opened the game with a 17-6 run as all five starters scored over the first six minutes of play.

Westmont managed to trim the early deficit to single digits at 22-14 following a Cly Griffith 3-pointer at the 12:01 mark.

However that would be as close as the Warriors would get as the Trailblazer defense limited Westmont (8-5) to only nine more points the rest of the half as Utah Tech rolled into the halftime break with a comfortable 50-23 lead.

Utah Tech did not see its lead dip below 20 points in the second half as the Trailblazers moved to 4-0 at home this season.

Numbers to know
Gooden connected on 6-of-11 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers to lead all scorers with his 17 points. It marked the eighth time in 12 games this season that the senior guard has led Utah Tech in scoring, and it was his team-high 10th double-digit point game of the year.

Gooden also dished out four assists and pulled down three rebounds in 32 minutes of game action.

Jacob Nicolds remained hot from the floor as he tallied 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and co-led the Trailblazers with seven rebounds.

Dancell Leter scored 10 of his 11 points off the bench in the first half to key the Blazers' surge midway through the period.

Noa Gonsalves also poured in 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting with three 3-pointers. The sophomore sharpshooter also collected six boards, three assists and one steal.

Utah Tech shot 45.0 percent (27-of-60) for the game, including a 37.5 percent effort (9-of-24) from the perimeter.

UT hit on 17-of-23 (.739) from the foul line and dished out 17 assists on its 27 made baskets. The Blazers also outrebounded Westmont by a 41-31 count, which matched Utah Tech's rebounding margin in its home win last Saturday night over The Master's University.

Cade Roth was the lone Warrior to score in double figures as he finished with 12 points. Westmont shot 31.4 percent (16-of-51) from the floor on the night and was just 3-of-23 (.130) from beyond the arc.

Up next
Utah Tech will close out its 2022-23 non-conference schedule this Thursday afternoon with a matinee match-up vs. Lindenwood. Tip-off inside the Burns Arena is slated for 1 p.m.
