Utah Tech came away with a 1-1 draw against Seattle U Thursday evening.
WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: Tonight was an exciting result, for multiple reasons. Coming off of a tough weekend, we knew we would face an organized and dangerous SU side, with much on the line. It was encouraging to see our team respond to going a goal down in the first half, by battling the game back to even. Being on the road, against solid WAC teams is never easy. In the end, the energy and belief our team had for each other, gave us just enough of a boost to secure a well deserved point. Time and time again, our Trailblazers showcase their ability to continue growing in consistency and execution. We look forward to facing a tough UVU team on Saturday to round out our regular season schedule.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Seattle started the game with a strong attack on goal. In just the second minute, Seattle fired one off on frame and UT's goalkeeper
Brianna Frey recorded the save. During the first 20 minutes of action the Redhawks recorded six shots to Utah Tech's two.
In the 30th minute, Seattle was on the attack and fired off a shot that a Trailblazer defender deflected, however it was deflected right to another Redhawk who fired off a shot from 18 yards out and Frey couldn't get the save. Seattle U had the 1-0 advantage going into the halftime break.
In the 56th minute the Trailblazers came up with the equalizer. Utah Tech had possession in the attacking midfield Shaylynn Uyeshiro had the ball in the midfield and was working on a switch field. She passed it to Gracie Knutzen who pushed it forward to a breaking Karli Nyland. Nyland worked the ball outside the 18 and sent it soaring towards the goal where Brynlee Roberts was waiting to finish it off, ensuring it sank in the bank of the net to tie the game 1-1.
The goal was Utah Tech's first shot on frame. In the 66th minute, Kearney Hoggan was placed a shot on frame to keep the Trailblazers momentum but the Redhawks came away with a save. In the 69th minute, Lauren Buxton was able to place another shot on frame but Seattle U notched another save.
Both teams kept up the intensity in the final 10 minutes but neither team scored and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
