Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blazers battle in 1-0 loss to Seattle

The Dixie State women's soccer team battled in Saturday afternoon in a 1-0 loss to Seattle U.

WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: "This weekend was an excellent example of the competitive spirit our conference embodies. I could not be more proud of the fight and grit our team displayed playing a top team in the WAC. Once again, the group has demonstrated an ability to learn and grow under extreme measures. Playing the reigning WAC champs after spending a week away from the training grounds certainly was not easy. However, our team stepped up to the task, made the most of the opportunity and succeeded in putting together two very competitive games. We are excited to get back on Monday in preparation for Chicago State next week!

HOW IT HAPPENED:In the 28th minute Seattle U was the first team to came up with a shot  on frame but it was saved by freshman goalkeeper Hollee Herick.

Herick ended the first half with three saves. Seattle had just four shots in the first half while DSU only fired off one.

The whistle sounded for kickoff in the second half and Seattle U scored a goal just 25 seconds later to take the 1-0 lead.

They continued a strong attack but Herick came away with two back to back saves to recapture the moment. Dixie State was not able to find a scoring opportunity for the remainder of the second half and the Trailblazers fell 1-0.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Dixie State ended the game with four total shots. DSU's Jaci Dandos-Cook had two of the four shots.

Herick ended the game with five saves.

Seattle U ended the game with 10 shots, six on goal and no saves.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 0-6-1 overall on the season.

UP NEXT:  The Trailblazers will hit the road to Chicago State for a pair of games, March 11 and 13. DSU's next home game will be March 20 against Utah Valley.
