Dixie State picks up 4-0 victory over Chicago State

Box Score The Dixie State women's soccer team came through with a big 4-0 victory over Chicago State, Thursday afternoon for the Trailblazers first Division I win.

WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: "Today's performance was an excellent example of our teams commitment to continuously be learning and growing. As most know, this can be difficult when results are not going your way, especially in close competitions. However, the group remained focused in training and did not allow previous score lines to distract them in preparation for today's match. We are proud of how the team demonstrated an ability to be sound defensively, while executing chances in the final third. Additionally, we were pleased to see solid performances from every player who stepped on the field. Today marks an exciting milestone for the program, earning a much deserved first division 1 & WAC victory. We plan to capitalize on this momentum as we prepare for Saturday's match."

HOW IT HAPPENED: Dixie State did not waste much time to take control of the offense. In the 15th minute Jill Bennett found Whitley Griffiths for the first goal of the game. Just five minutes later the strong offensive attack continued when Kenna Sparks found Sofie Stewart off a corner kick for Dixie State's second goal.

With a 2-0 lead going into the second half, the Trailblazers knew they couldn't let up. In the 48th minute, DSU had another corner kick opportunity that was executed by Griffiths for her second goal in the game.

The offensive action wasn't over yet. In the 77th minute, Griffiths pulled off a third goal for a hat trick on the day. Dixie State finished the game with a 4-0 score.
