Dixie State baseball dropped the second game of its three-game road series at Wichita State, 15-3, on Saturday afternoon at Eck Stadium.
Wichita State ambushed the Trailblazers (0-6) for three first inning runs, then plated three more in the home third, to bolt out to a quick 6-0 lead.
Dixie State got two of those runs back in the fourth as the Blazers loaded the bases with one out on base hits from
Tanner Harper and Kade Hollow, which book-ended a
Jake Engel walk. Then with two outs,
Drake Benner drew a walk to force home Dixie State's first run, while Engel scampered home on a wild pitch to cut the DSU deficit to 6-2.
However that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get as the Shockers (5-3) struck for three runs in the home fourth, and erupted for a six-run seventh to put the game away.
Dixie State was limited to six hits, all singles, with six different Blazers accounting for each safety. Junior southpaw
Jack Gonzales (L, 0-3) pitched into the third inning and struck out two, but did surrender six runs on seven hits to take the loss.
Dixie State will look to salvage a win the series finale Sunday beginning at 12 noon (MT).
