Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blazers fall 2-1 in overtime to Redhawks

The Dixie State women's soccer team's early first half goal wasn't enough to hold on and the Trailblazers fell 2-1 to Seattle U Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Dixie State started things off with a strong attack on goal in the sixth minute. Whitley Griffths powered a ball at goal but it was saved and Sophie Stewart was there to place a head on the ricochet but couldn't execute.

Seattle U answered with back-to-back shots on goal just a minute later, both were saved by DSU keeper Hollee Herick.

The Trailblazers were the first to get officially on the scoreboard in the 25th minute of play. Stewart was on the right wing and sent the ball towards the goal. Stewarts ball was just off the net in front of the goal and Kennedy Warnick was on the opposite post to place the ball in the upper 90 for a Trailblazer goal. At the end of the half, DSU had the 1-0 lead.

In the 73rd minute, Seattle U drew a penalty kick and sunk the goal to tie the game. Regulation play ended with a 1-1 score. In the 94th minute the Redhawks had an open fast break which they were able to execute for a goal to end the match with a final score of 2-1.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Dixie State ended the game with 15 total shots and seven shots on goal. DSU had one goal and one assist. Griffiths had three shots with all three on frame. Kenna Sparks had four shots with one on frame. Herick ended the game with eight saves.

Seattle U ended the game with 18 shots, 10 on goal and six saves.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 0-5-1 overall on the season. This was Warnick's first career goal.
