Blazers fall to UNLV Wednesday night, 2-0

The Dixie State men's soccer team struggled offensively Wednesday night, falling 2-0 to UNLV.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Most of the first half was scoreless, with both sides playing aggressive defense. Dixie State (2-6, 2-6 WAC) junior, Idris Alabi had a great scoring chance in the 28th minute of play that was sent away by the Rebels keeper. UNLV (4-2-2, 4-2-2 WAC) ended the scoring drought at the 34:09 mark, when Jesus Partida sent a ball through two Blazer defenders for a Rebels goal.

The second half was similar to the first, with strong defense played by both sides to keep the match close; however, UNLV scored in the 85th minute to clinch the 2-0 win for the Rebels. The goal came from defender, Matthew Ridley off a corner kick from Marco Gonzalez.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Despite losing 2-0, the Trailblazers out shot the Rebels 9-6, including a 5-3 edge on frame. Goalkeeper Jakob Moore was credited with 1 save in the loss.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 2-6 thus far into their first Division I season.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazers will head to Edinburg, Texas for their final road match of the year to take on WAC foe, UT Rio Grande Valley.
