Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dixie State downs UTRGV 1-0

The Dixie State men's soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory over University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Monday afternoon.

"I'm so proud of our entire team, the guys at home and the guys here." head coach Jonny Broadhead said. "Our first shutout was a special effort today that goes back to the work ethic our team has been trying to establish since last fall; and to get it against a UTRGV team that was leading the league in goals scored made it that much better. We want more and will enjoy this and get back to the work we love to do to make our school and community proud."

Dixie State was the first team to find a shot on frame early in the game in the eighth minute. Larsen Rogers hit one bottom center but it was saved. UTRGV then went on to get three shots on frame the remainder of the first half, however, Jakob Moore came away with three saves.

As the first half ended the score remained 0-0. In the second half, UTRGV had five shots on goal but wasn't able to get anything past Moore. In the 67th minute, Matt Lockwood had the ball on the right wing. He then gave it off to Duncan McKenna and made a break down the line. McKenna dished it back to Lockwood who sent it into the goal to give Dixie State a 1-0 lead.

UTRGV out shot DSU 14-8 with the Vaqureos having eight on frame to the Trailblazers five. Dixie State came away with eight saves to UTRGV's four.  UTRGV also drew 16 corner kicks to DSU's two.

The Trailblazers are now 3-6-0 overall on the season and will host BYU's Club team in an exhibition game Saturday, April 10 before hosting California Baptist in the final game of the season Friday, April 6.
