Entering the final two matches of the season, Dixie State (8-8/7-8 WAC), took down Chicago State University in three sets to return to the .500 mark on the season. The Trailblazers fired a .270 hitting percentage en route to their sixth sweep of the season.
The first set was level at nine apiece before the Trailblazers went on an extended 10-1 run to take a commanding 19-10 lead. Chicago State tried to cut into the deficit but were unable to get closer than six as Dixie State cruised to a 25-18 victory.
Dixie State jumped out to an early 11-5 lead in set two, but the Cougars continued to battle and would eventually tie the set at 19 before taking a 23-22 lead late in the frame. A timeout by Dixie State reenergized the Trailblazers who won four out of the next five points to eke out a set-two victory, 26-24.
With its eyes on a sweep, Dixie State used a 6-1 run early in set three to take a 13-6 lead. The Trailblazers would maintain the lead throughout the rest of the set to finish off the Cougars and win the set 25-20 to earn its eighth victory of the season.
Lauolive Tonga led the Trailblazers offensively as she tallied 15 kills while also adding eight digs.
Sydney Johnson, who was honored before the game as the lone senior who will be graduating at the end of the semester, racked up 10 kills in the win.
Jordyn Nelson handed out 28 assists, while
Mykenna Nelson had 14 digs and
Megan Treanor had 13 digs to help in the victory.
