Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Trailblazers stay competitive in 2-0 loss to Lancers

The Dixie State women's soccer team came away empty handed after its first road trip of the season falling to California Baptist with a 2-0 score.

WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: "Today was another great picture of how difficult this WAC schedule will be. Not only is playing the same team twice in a weekend a challenge, but CBU was well organized and consistent in achieving their game plan. This is an area our team is focused on improving and these results further highlights the importance of executing our game plan more consistently. I am proud of the team's ability to make the match competitive for long stretches of time. Again, we created many solid goal scoring opportunities, while limiting chances against for most of the game. It would be easy to look at the results of this weekend with frustration, however our staff is genuinely encouraged by our teams ability to continue growing. We must approach this upcoming week with that same mentality and set out to improve a little more before facing GCU on Thursday."

HOW IT HAPPENED: California Baptist was the first team to place on ball on frame. In the 33rd minute the Lancers placed one high on frame but freshman, Hollee Herick came up with the save.

Dixie State quickly answered with a shot on goal of their own just two minutes later but CBU came up with a save. As the first half ended the score was 0-0.

California Baptist sunk their first goal in the 75th minute. In the 86th minute, Jill Bennet place a ball low right on frame from a beautiful cross from Sophie Stewart but CBU came up with a save. Not 30 seconds later, the Lancers found themselves on a fast break and were able to score their second goal of the game claiming the 2-0 win.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Dixie State ended the game with eight total shots and three on goal. Bennet led DSU with three shots. Herick ended the game with three saves.

CBU ended the game with 11 shots, five on goal and three saves.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 0-4-1 overall on the season.

UP NEXT:  The Trailblazers return home to St. George for four consecutive WAC games. First DSU will take on GCU Feb. 25 and 27 before hosting Seattle U March 4 and 6.
