Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Corie Sue Holmes

Dixie State falls 2-1 to California Baptist

The Dixie State women's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season and took on California Baptist unfortunately falling 2-1 at the end of regulation.

WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: "It was a hard fought battle against a solid WAC opponent. As always, there is much to be excited about in our team's performance, as we anticipated this to be a challenging game both physically and tactically. We will look to utilize the information we gathered in today's match in order to make improvements in the next. This is a characteristic our team has demonstrated time and time again. We are looking forward to the opportunity to learn from today's result and to get another chance to compete against a quality CBU side on Saturday."

HOW IT HAPPENED: California Baptist attacked early with a shot on goal within the first three minutes. Hollee Herick came up with the save to keep CBU from getting on the board.

Dixie State had a great scoring opportunity in the 24th minute as Jill Bennet drew a foul in the box for a DSU PK. Unfortunately the shot went high above the crossbar and goose eggs remained on the board.

Later in the first half, Sophie Stewart had the ball on the left wing just outside the 18 yard box. Stewart crossed it into Whitley Griffiths who put a head on it sending it into the lower left side but CBU came away with a save.

As the first half closed out, the score remained 0-0. Just 15 seconds after the second half kick off, CBU found themselves with an open shot that sunk deep into the net to give them a 1-0 lead over DSU.

It didn't take long for the Trailblazers to answer and tie it up. Griffiths worked the ball on the right wing and crossed it inside to Kelsey Cook who sent it in the goal for a 1-1 score.

In the 71st minute, CBU found themselves in a scoring position and scored another goal giving them a 2-1 lead.

Dixie State tried to make one final push in the final ten minutes. Griffiths was able to get one shot off on goal in the 82nd minute but couldn't finish and the Trailblazers fell 2-1.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Cook led DSU with two shots including one goal. Griffiths also had a strong offensive attack with three shots, two on goal and one assist.

Herick ended the game with a career high of nine saves.

Dixie State ended the game with nine total shots and four on goal while CBU ended with 20 total shots and 11 on goal. Dixie State had nine saves while CBU had three.

NOTES TO KNOW: Dixie State is now 0-3-1 overall on the season.
