Trailblazers pick up 1-1 draw with T-Birds

ST. GEORGE, UT - The Dixie State women's soccer team came away with a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon against Southern Utah.

WHAT HEAD COACH MOLLY ROUSE SAID: "Today's match was another excellent demonstration in the teams commitment to growth. It was impressive to see our fight and determination, especially in response to being a goal down at half. We are excited to have created multiple goal scoring opportunities throughout the second half and overtime, while limiting chances against a solid SUU attack. Heading into our WAC opener against CBU, we are confident in the team's ability to address areas of improvement, while focusing on getting another 10% better by next Thursday."

HOW IT HAPPENED: Southern Utah was the first to get on the scoreboard. In the 33rd minute, SUU's Rachael Hunt found herself on a fastbreak up the left hand sideline, Hunt made the cross which Kate Schirmer received and sent it flying deep into the back of the net for a goal.

Dixie State controlled possession for most of the second half outshooting SUU 13-3. In the 68th minute, the Trailblazers had the ball when Jill Bennet took a shot from the right wing, SUU's keeper came up with a save but Madison Henderson was there for the ricochet and drilled it into the back of the net.

As the alarm sounded at the end of regulation SUU and Dixie State were tied 1-1.

In the first overtime, Dixie State had three shots with one on goal. While Southern Utah didn't take a shot. In the second overtime, Dixie state had two shots with one on goal while SUU didn't take a shot.

Both overtimes came and went with no additional goals scored and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

STAT BREAKDOWN: Henderson was the lone scorer for the Trailblazers and she ended the game with two shots and two on goal. Sophie Stewart also had a productive day offensively coming away with the game of four shots and two on goal. Jill Bennet and Lauren Buxton each had three shots.
