Trailblazers set to open season Wednesday vs. Gonzaga

OPENING TOUCH: Dixie State officially kicks off the 2020-21 season this week with a pair of home matches on the pitch at Greater Zion Stadium. DSU opens the campaign Feb. 3 against Gonzaga (0-0) at 7:00 p.m.

ENTERING THE WAC: Dixie State enters its first season of Division 1 as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. Dixie State is originally scheduled to play a 18-game schedule including 4 non-conference games and 14 conference games.

DIXIE STATE VS. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: Dixie State enters Wednesday's opener vs. Gonzaga after having one of the most successful years in school history. Dixie State has never faced the Bulldogs before. 

COACHING STAFF: Molly Rouse (Minnesota, 2012) begins her first season as Dixie State head coach. Rouse is also in her first ever year as a head coach. Rouse brought with her two new assistant coaches in Lindsey Dare and Jennie Clark.

TRAILBLAZERS PICKED SEVENTH IN THE WAC: Dixie State was voted to finish seventh in the WAC women's soccer preseason coaches' poll released on January 28. Seattle U was picked first with five first place votes. Utah Valley was picked second with three first place votes.

LAST SEASON IN THE RMAC: The 2019 season will mark the final season the Trailblazers will be a competing member of the conference. The Trailblazers left their mark on the RMAC as they walked away as Reigning RMAC Champions. DSU ended the season ranked No. 2 in the nation in DII. The Trailbalzers also recorded the most goals in a single season with 56 and the most points in a season with 148.

2020 PREVIEW: Dixie State returns 10 starters and 13 letter winners from last season's  12-4-6 championship season.

DSU welcomes back six seniors in Jill Bennet, Adelle Brown, Andrea Camacho, Kelsey Cook, Breesa Nawahine and Sophie Stewart. The Trailblazers have nine juniors and seven sophomores on the squad this year. Dixie State is also welcoming 11 new freshman to the team this year.

UP NEXT: Dixie State opens the road portion of its 2019 slate next weekend as the Trailblazers  head to SoCal to renew a pair of old Pacific West Conference rivalries. DSU will travel to San Diego to face Point Loma on Thursday, Sept. 12, before heading north to Irvine to square off against Concordia-Irvine on Saturday, Sept. 14.

TEAM NOTES: Dixie State's 11 victories in 2019 marks the sixth-straight season and the 10th season in the program's NCAA-era that the Trailblazers have reached double digits in wins ... seven of those 11 wins last season were at home (7-1-1), and DSU has won 13 of its last 15 home matches overall since the start of the 2018 season.
The Trailblazers are now 148-89-18 all-time (.615) since joining the NCAA ranks in 2006.
Dixie State scored five or more goals five times last season, including a six-goal outing in the season opener vs. CSUSB (6-1, 9/5) and a pair of five-goal games against Colorado Christian (10/11) and at Adams State (10/18).

SEASON KICKOFF: Dixie State is 8-3-3 in season openers in the NCAA era. They are also 4-0-3 in home openers going into opening week of soccer.

KNOW YOUR FOE: The Bulldogs haven't played a match yet this season. This will be Gonzaga's season opener.
