Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | DSU Athletic Media Relations

Trailblazers Roll Past Bethesda Tuesday Night, 99-61

Hunter Schofield led four Trailblazers in double figures with a game-high 18 points as Dixie State rolled past Bethesda University, 99-61, on Tuesday night inside the Burns Arena.

DSU (2-5) opened with a 14-0 run, hitting on six of its first 11 shots over the game's first six minutes to take immediate control. Meanwhile the Flames (1-10) missed on their first 11 shot attempts and were forced into four early turnovers.

However Bethesda would hang around, cutting the deficit to single digits on three occasions, thanks in large part to 11 first half Blazer miscues and a frigid 3-of-15 clip from the perimeter (12-of-19 from 2-pt range).

Dixie State extended back to a 13-point lead after a Trevon Allfrey bucket with 48 second left in the frame, but a Tyler Goodlow 3-pointer on the Flames' final trip down the court pulled his side to within 10 at 38-28 at the halftime break.

The Trailblazers would begin the second half like they did the first, this time using a 16-2 start to race out to their biggest lead of the night at 54-30 with 15:46 to play. Frank Staine scored eight of his 10 total points in the run, while Schofield and Cameron Gooden combined for the other eight.

DSU would push the advantage to as many as 42 points before settling for its season-best winning margin, and in the process snapped its four-game losing streak.

Schofield had a perfect night from the floor as he went 9-of-9 shooting with six rebounds and one steal in just 20 minutes. The senior became just the third Trailblazer in the program's NCAA era to enjoy a perfect shooting night with at least nine made field goals, joining Mark Ogden Jr. (9-of-9 vs. Holy Names; 12/20/14) and Steven Larson (11-of-11 at Montana State-Billings; 11/16/12) on that exclusive list.

Speaking of perfect, Allfrey poured in a season-high 15 points on 5-of-5 from both the field and the foul line. Allfrey also blocked two shots and pulled down a game and career-high 10 rebounds en route to his first collegiate double-double.

In addition, Andre Mulibea chipped a season-high 14 points, which was one off of his career high of 15 set last season vs. New Mexico (1/13/21).

Dixie State shot 50.7 percent (36-of-71) overall, which included a 56.8 percent effort (21-of-37) after halftime, though DSU was just 6-of-24 (.250) from 3-point country.

The Blazers also hit on a season-high 80.8 percent (21-of-26) their foul shots, and outrebounded the Flames by a 59-31 margin. The 59 total rebounds were just three shy of the school record of 62 set at Cal Poly Pomona (11/10/17) during the 2017-18 campaign.

Goodlow led Bethesda with 14 points. The Flames connected on just 30.0 percent (21-of-70) of its shots with seven 3-pointers (7-of-36, .194), and went 12-of-19 (.632) at the foul line.

The two teams will meet again in the final game of a rare back-to-back non-conference series on Wednesday night in the Burns Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
