Dixie State set to host Antelope Valley on Saturday

OPENING TIP:  Dixie State women's basketball returns home to take on the Pioneers of Antelope Valley Saturday, Nov.20 at 1:00 PM.

FAST BREAK
•  Dixie State is coming off a 85-34 loss to #10 Oregon.
•  The Trailblazers are 1-2 overall on the season.
•  DSU is on a two game losing streak.
•  The Blazers have returned two starters from last year.
•  Dixie State was picked No. 12 in the WAC preseason polls.
•  Head Coach JD Gustin is in his sixth season at the helm of the Trailblazers.

BEANS AND THE TRIPLE DOUBLE: Junior, Breaunna Gillen recorded a triple double against Life Pacific with 14 points, 10 Rebounds and 11 Assists. She's the second Trailblazer in school history to record a triple double.

Previously during the 2009-10 season, Deanna Daniels recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds and 12 steals. The 12 steals is the current school record.

GILLEN TAKES THE LEAD: Junior Breaunna Gillen leads Dixie State in scoring averaging 14 points per game. Gillen has scored in double figures in two of the three games so far this season racking up 42 points thus far. Gillen also leads the team reobounding averaging nine boards a game and has accumulated six offensive and 21 defensive for a total of 27.

HOME SWEET HOME: Since joining the NCAA ranks in 2006-07, Dixie State has played to a 114-58 (.662) overall record in the Burns Arena. Under Head Coach JD Gustin, DSU is 35-25 (.583) at home which includes the 1-0 record this season.
      
ON THE DUSTY TRAIL: Dixie State has a 72-101 (.416) record on the road since joining the NCAA in 2006-07. Under Head Coach JD Gustin, the Blazers are 19-34 (.319) on the road. The Trailblazers are currently 0-2 on the road this year.

SEASON OPENERS: The Trailblazers are 9-7 in all-time season openers. DSU is 7-2 when opening the season in St. George and 2-5 when opening the season on the road.  Head Coach JD Gustin is 4-2 in season openers including this year's 107-57 win over Life Pacific. Gustin is 3-1 in openers at home, 1-0 in openers on neutral ground and 0-1 in openers on the road.

RECORD BREAKING SEASON DEBUT: Dixie State  started the 2021-22 season off with a bang. After not playing a single game in nearly a year, the Trailblazers opened with a record breaking game in the 107-57 win over Life Pacific.
•  Tied the most points in a single game with 107
•  Broke the record for most made 3-point field goals in a game.
•  Broke the record for most attempted 3-point field goals in a game.
•  #4 in school history in largest victory margin with 50 points
•  Tied #3 in school history for assists in a game with 28.

UAV Quick Facts

•  The Pioneers come into the weekend with a 1-3 record.

UAV is on a three game losing streak.

Deon Price leads the Pioneers and is in his fifth season.

Pioneers vs. Blazers

•  Dixie State has a 2-0 record against Antelope Valley in the all-time series.

•  DSU is on a two game winning streak.

•  Dixie is 2-0 taking on UAV at home.

•  The Blazers are 2-0 taking on the Vikings under head coach Gustin.

•  The last time the two teams met up was in 2018-19 season, DSU fell won 74-60.


QUICK LOOK AT THE 2021-22 SCHEDULE: The Trailblazers are scheduled to face No. 10 Oregon Sunday, Nov 14. DSU also has games against Utah State, Colorado and Portland State.
    DSU has 16 home games on its docket, highlighted by visits from Kansas City, Air Force and in-state foe, Southern Utah.     
   Dixie State will ring in the new year by starting its 18-game Western Athletic Conference schedule, with road games against Tarleton State on Thursday, Dec. 30, and WAC newcomer and Abilene Christian on Saturday, Jan. 1.

MEET THE 2021-22 TRAILBLAZERS: Dixie State begins its second D-I season with three returning starters from 2020-21.
    The Trailblazers have two seniors on this year's squad in Shanaijah Davison and Hannah Robins, both are transfers with Davison coming from Long Beach State and Robins coming from rival Southern Utah.
    There are  five juniors on the team this year. Maggie McCord, Emily Isaacson and Breaunna Gillen are all returning for their third year as Trailblazers. Talia Sireni and Taylia Stimpson are new to Dixie this year. Stimpson is a transfer from Georgetown while Sireni comes to DSU from San Diego State.
    Just two sophomores  are on the squad, both returning, in Brooke Vance and Vegas Camacho.
    Three freshmen will vie for playing time this year, including Maddie and Macie Warren as well as Averi Papa.

UP NEXT: Dixie State begins will host the Roos of Kansas City on Nov. 24 efore hitting the road to take on in-state rival, Utah State on Dec. 1.
