Women’s Tennis wraps up fall schedule in Grand Junction

The Dixie State women's tennis team travels to Grand Junction, Colorado, this weekend to wrap up its fall schedule.

The Trailblazers will play a total of two matches while in Colorado, beginning on Friday. DSU will take on Colorado Mesa on Friday at 3 p.m., before closing the weekend with a 9 a.m. match vs. Colorado College on Saturday.

ALL-TIME VS. COLORADO MESA: Friday's match marks the 22nd meeting between Dixie State and Colorado Mesa. CMU won 12 of the first 13 matchups between the two schools. Since then, DSU has rattled off seven of the last eight, including four matches between the schools last year. The Mavericks hold a 13-8 all-time series lead over the Trailblazers.

ALL-TIME VS. COLORADO COLLEGE: Saturday's match marks the second time Dixie State has played Colorado College. The Trailblazers are 1-0 all-time against the Tigers, last season being the only meeting between the two schools.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: The state of Colorado has become a home away from home for Dixie State over the last three seasons, as the Trailblazers have recorded a 17-5 record in matches played in Colorado since 2016.

2019 RMAC CHAMPS: The Trailblazers wrap up their first fall schedule since clinching their first conference championship in program history in April. Dixie State will play an independent schedule during the 2019-20 season after the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dropped women's tennis as a sponsored sport.

LAST TIME OUT: The Trailblazers opened the 2019-20 season with a 2-2 record at CSU-Pueblo on September 13-14. DSU earned a split on both days, defeating CSU-Pueblo on Friday and Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday.

2019-20 ROSTER: Dixie State returns four players from the 2018-19 squad, including senior Kyra Harames, junior Megan Lynch, and sophomores Isabel Heras and Juliana Honczaruk.

Harames earned first team All-RMAC honors last season, logging a 12-4 record in singles play and a 10-6 mark in doubles play. Lynch, who also garnered first team All-RMAC honors, posted a team-best 12-2 mark in singles play, while playing alongside Harames in doubles play. Heras was named RMAC Freshman of the Year and logged an 11-5 record in singles play and a 10-7 mark in doubles play. Honczaruk also turned in a sensational freshman season, playing to a 7-1 mark in singles play with a 6-7 record in doubles play.

Six new freshmen join the team for the 2019-20 season, including Ceanne Elliott, Alexandra Hildreth, Briee Jolliff, Katelyn Longson, Anna Peterson, and Emma Templeman.

COACHING STAFF: Eric Pelton is currently in his 14th season as the DSU women's tennis head coach. Pelton has been with the program since the sport was added for the 2006-07 season. Pelton is joined again by two assistants, Jordan Lyden (3rd Season) and Steve Bui (4th Season).

UP NEXT: Dixie State will open its 2020 spring schedule in February.
