Trailblazers Roll Past South Dakota Mines Saturday, 3-0

To'a Faleao threw down a career-high 18 kills to help lead Dixie State volleyball to its sixth-straight victory in a 3-0 sweep of South Dakota Mines Saturday night inside the DSU SAC.

The Trailblazers (7-3/2-0 RMAC) used eight-straight points as part of a 10-1 run to break a 10-10 tie and roll to a 25-17 win in the opening set, then led wire-to-wire en route to a convincing 25-12 triumph in the second frame to take a 2-0 lead in the match. DSU trailed by no more than two points the entire night, including at 5-3 early in the third stanza, but the Blazers would quickly erase the deficit and would extend to an 11-7 advantage after a Chayse Daugherty kill.

SDM (5-6/1-1 RMAC) managed to pull to within 14-13 midway through the set, but Dixie State answered with a 5-1 spurt to push the lead to five at 19-14 and the Trailblazers coasted home from there for a 25-21 set win to close out the sweep. Four different Blazers picked up kills in that final run, with Megan Treanor, Sydney Johnson, Miranda Ekblad and Faleao all leading a balanced attack to help put the match away.

Faleao hit a season-high .485 in the match and collected 10 digs, three aces and two block assists for good measure. Meanwhile Treanor posted her sixth double-double of the season with 10 kills (.471 H%) and 16 assists with two total blocks, and Lauren Gammell tallied six block assists, including her 300th-career block assist in the third set, along with five kills and five digs.

Dixie State finished with a season-high .347 hitting percentage with 46 kills to just 12 attack errors. DSU defense also got the job done as the unit had 49 digs and 8.0 team blocks in limiting the Hardrockers to a .143 attack percentage.

DSU now heads out for a four-match RMAC road swing, which begins next weekend at Western Colorado on Friday, Sept. 27, followed by a showdown at Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Sept. 28.
